Music Magazine Analysis

Masthead research and analysis

This is a masthead for NME magazine. The font is bold as it is in capital letters and the red makes it stand out more as the stroke of the masthead is just black and white. The text is sans-serif; the text makes it look more modern. Also the drop shadow makes the masthead extra bold.

This is the masthead is for Vibe magazine. It has no drop shadow or colour. The font is sans-serif showing that the magazine is neither elegant nor classic yet it is fresh and edgy. The letters are quite thick which makes a statement; the letters are capitals apart from the "e" at the end showing a unique angle to the magazine.
This is the masthead for Q magazine. There is a massive white, capital Q within a red square. A connotation of the color red can represent danger and passion which shows Q magazine are quite a fierce magazine and care about what they are saying in the magazine.

This is the masthead for Clash magazine. This masthead is extremely similar to the Vibe logo. It is black, bold writing on a white background. The font is again sans-serif showing it is a current type of magazine aiming it at perhaps a younger audience. The word "clash" is in capital letters which shows that they are a confident magazine that wants to get out there. Clash magazine also looks as if the letters are different sizes.

This is the masthead for Billboard magazine. The font is thinner, black, sans-serif writing with different colours in four of the letters from "board". The colour yellow appears twice, the connotation of yellow can be seen as Billboard trying to create an effect of happiness. Billboard also used blue and red which are the other two primary colours therefore Billboard are trying to show that it quite a simple, bright, yet main (popular) magazine their audience can relate to.

I chose Media Studies because I am intrigued as to what we will learn during the course. This is because media is everywhere in everyone’s lives, inflicting certain opinions onto the public. I love to watch new films as well and I like to read reviews to see the public’s opinions on what they liked and disliked about a film. After that I watch trailers for new films that can be viewed at the cinema to see if it is something that appeals. From this qualification I hope to gain an insight on how they can influence people and see how certain changes can target different types/ groups of people. I will look at analysing imagery as well. If I were to work in the media when I’m older, this would help me in developing certain skills that would help me in my career. I do have an interest in the media as everyone is involved in the media whether we read newspapers and magazines or whether we listen to the radio and watch TV. I use the media on a daily basis by mainly using social networks such as Instagram and Snapchat. I do this to see what other people are doing and to engage with my friends. Most of my friends have Twitter and Facebook too. I don’t watch the news or read the paper much but I hear about some major things that I need to know about on Twitter and Facebook as the stories from there get shared and retweeted and can become viral.
